Politics is an independent social science subject that studies the form and operation rules of public power, mainly including the theory and practice of national government and politics. The core topics of politic research include the relationship between the state and society, political system, political thoughts, government decision-making, public administration, rule of law, political rights, political development, political culture, social justice, sovereignty, diplomacy, international relations, international security, etc.

BFSU established the undergraduate major of Diplomacy in 1999 and postgraduate program of Diplomacy in 2004. In 2010, it was accredited to award master’s degrees in Diplomacy under the first-level discipline of Politics, which was highly valued by the Ministry of Education. The first-level discipline of Politics is composed of 6 common sub-disciplines, including Political Theory, Chinese and Foreign Political Systems, Scientific Socialism and International Communist Movement, International Politics, International Relations, and Diplomacy, as well as 3 independent sub-disciplines, including Comparative Study of Chinese and Foreign Marxism, Regional Studies, Public Diplomacy. In this way, we have formed a complete political science discipline and cultivation system.

This program aims to strengthen the cultivation of new types of diplomatic talents, especially those from international organizations and regional countries, so that students have a broad academic vision and a solid theoretical foundation. To achieve this goal, we formed the cultivation mode to cultivate interdisciplinary talent: undergraduate students are required to command their major and English or French, while postgraduate students are required to master a second foreign language on top of that.

Students of this major should be proficient in basic theories and research methods of diplomacy, be familiar with the diplomatic history, especially the basic policies and specific diplomatic practices of China's diplomacy, and have independent analysis ability on international political theories and realities. The major of Diplomacy is composed of various research directions, including Theory and Practice of Diplomacy, Chinese Diplomacy Studies, International Economics, etc. IBS is responsible for Master of Diplomacy (international economic direction). We aim to equip our students with deep theoretical foundations of politics, economics, and strong ability of intercultural communication. They should have an in-depth grasp of modern international principles of political economy and international economy theories, skills, and research methods, be familiar with the popular basic rules and practices of international trade, finance and investment, and be able to apply these theories in practice. In this way, they will be competent to do relevant work in colleges and universities, scientific research units, state organs, enterprises, institutions and international and multinational organizations
