Management Science and Engineering

Location:Home

Management Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to optimize the management process by applying mathematical, statistical, social scientific, technological, and computer science principles and tools, as well as other natural science methodologies.

Our school formally launched two undergraduate programs on Information Management and Information Systems in 2001 and E-commerce in 2002. In 2010, it was authorized to award a master’s degree in the first-level discipline of management science and engineering. The school has been rated as “National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center” and “Beijing Excellent Teaching Team”. Due to our dedication to rigorous instruction and research, our team has received honors such as the “First Prize of Outstanding Achievement for Research in Beijing Institutes of Higher Education” and “Second Prize of Beijing Higher Education Teaching Achievement”. A multidisciplinary and multi-lingual international management talent paradigm is created as this discipline integrates cutting-edge management science theories with the benefits of BFSU’s language and cultural disciplines. In addition, it sets up four sub-disciplines: international logistics and supply chain management; financial engineering and risk management; big data and business analysis; and data science and global governance.

Sub-disciplines

1. Financial Engineering and Risk Management program

Featuring multidisciplinary approach and curricular innovation, the Financial Engineering and Risk Management program will take you through the complex risks prevalent in international financial markets. The program equips students with extensive knowledge and research skills in various topics such as optimal security design, pricing of financial products, pricing of energy derivatives and their options, as well as how macro factors such as monetary liquidity affect asset prices, how risks such as sovereign acts, financial market volatility, and trade frictions impact China’s outbound investments, how to spot risks of informal finance and how to avoid them, how to analyze disclosure behavior and regulatory risk of listed companies, and many others.

The program is dedicated to cultivating high-caliber specialists who can critically avoid financial risks through sophisticated approaches such as mathematical modeling, numerical calculation, network diagramming, and simulation. Students here are trained to be experts at applying innovative financial instruments and tools, pricing financial derivatives, designing trading strategies, and managing financial risk.
