On the 28th of November, the 13th Leadership Forum of the International Business School of Beijing Foreign Studies University was successfully held at the Conference Hall 317 of the International Building, BFSU. The forum was hosted by the Student Union of the Undergraduate General Youth Branch of IBS, with participation by key students from 13 universities, including the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Beihang University.
At the commencement of the forum, Wang Ruixue, secretary of the undergraduate General Youth Branch of IBS, gave an opening speech. She noted that the world is witnessing and compelled to undergo profound and unprecedented changes[E1][2]. Coupled with the impact of the pandemic and increasing uncertainties, young people should shoulder heavier responsibilities and actively explore the wider world[E3][4].
During the first half of the forum, participating members developed deeper understanding of one another through engagement in enriching and interesting ‘ice-breaking’ games. After a short coffee break, the second half of the forum officially continued. Members were divided into groups; each group held lively discussion on three topics: “Dealing with internal relationship within the organization”, “Development of activities during the pandemic”, and “Volunteer campaign retention and successor training”. After the discussion, representatives from each group shared their views on hese topics, which were groundbreaking and instructive.
Subsequently, 2006 class alumnus Wang Zuo, Liu Xiaomeng, and 2016 class alumni Cao Sihong commented on the speeches by each group and shared their own experiences. Wang Zuoxuo suggested that members of the Student Unions should not be restricted by materialistic gains, but seek greater satisfaction brought upon by higher-level ability training and interpersonal communication; Liu Xiaomeng expressed his views on the differences between male and female leaderships; Cao Sihong believed that the model of encouraging new volunteers to discover and solve problems and mutual evaluation between student union officers and members are worthwhile lessons that can be learned whilst in universities.
The 13th Leadership Forum not only promoted communications among the grassroot student leaders in various colleges and universities, but also provided valuable experience and a platform for the development and progress of student work in the future.
