Employment Series Activities of IBS Comprehensively Improve Student Employability

On 8th of April, 2022, the preliminaries of the 9th International Business School of Beijing Foreign Studies University Employability Competition was officially launched. The event was hosted by the Career Guidance Center of BFSU and undertaken by the Youth League general Branch &Student Union of graduate students of the IBS, aiming to comprehensively improve the workplace competitiveness and employability of prospective graduates. This employability competition invited teachers from the school's Employment and Entrepreneurship Center, IBS and other colleges, as well as several industry mentors to serve as judges and instructors. International Business School grade 2019 undergraduates, grade 2020 academic master, and grade 2021 professional master a total of 417 students signed up and participated in the competition, received a total of 82 career interview reports and 297 resumes, held two employment experience sharing lectures, a resume revision activity, a mock interview activity and two employment report meetings.

At 3:00 pm on 13th of April, 2022, the employment experience sharing lecture of the 9th International Business School Preliminary Competition of Employability Competition was successfully held in 615, Shaw Building, East Campus. The lecture invites Bai Rui (grade 2018 in finance) who plans to work in the China Merchants Bank Beijing Branch, Liu Lulu (grade 2020 professional master of finance) who plans to work in the International Settlement Document Center of Bank of China, and Wang Zihan (grade 2019 academic master of management science and engineering) who has received many high-quality offers. Three students shared their job search experience, and answered questions about career planning, job search skills and other issues. Tan Jialin, Secretary of the Youth League general Branch &Student Union of graduate students of the IBS, attended the event and made a concluding speech. A total of about 330 students offline and online participated in this activity.

At 10:00 am on 16th of April, 2022, the industry sharing lecture of the preliminaries of the 9th International Business School of the 9th Employability Competition was successfully held in the second lecture hall of Shaw Building, East Campus. The lecture invited Zhang Zhe, general manager of Zhiyu Management Consulting, and Li Feng, head of ESWIN Strategic Planning Office, two industry mentors to share the industry and answer questions, focusing on how to choose an industry and how to match their abilities with different positions. Tan Jialin, Secretary of the Youth League general Branch &Student Union of graduate students of the IBS, and more than 100 students attended the event.

On the afternoon of 16th of April, 2022, the resume revision activity of the 9th International Business School Preliminary Competition of Employability Competition was successfully held at Room 353, 357, 361 and 365 of the International Building, West Campus. Four corporate mentors, Wan Jingjing, Xie Jing, Xun Jie, and Li Shuowen, respectively revised resumes one by one for the students who signed up for the event. Tan Jialin, Secretary of the Youth League general Branch &Student Union of graduate students of the IBS, attended the event. About 300 students of IBS signed up and participated in the event. Each teacher conducted a 5-minute revision guide for students' resumes. The common problems found included: the experience did not match the job search direction, and the focus was not prominent enough. The four teachers suggested that the students should focus on cultivating differentiated abilities while improving their comprehensive quality, giving full play to the advantages of English, and accumulating experience for their current goals in a targeted manner.

On the afternoon of 20th of April, 2022, the mock interview of the 9th International Business School Preliminary Competition of Employability Competition was successfully held on the third floor in the International Building of the West Campus. Eight teachers from inside and outside the school, including Zhang Jing, Fan Qing, Li Shaohui, Song Wenmin, Lan Jianhua, Qian Mengting, Gao Baihui, and Tan Jialin, attended the event as judges. A total of nearly 100 students from IBS participated in this mock interview. Each interview takes 30 minutes and is conducted in the form of a leaderless group discussion, including 15 minutes for group discussion, 5 minutes for group presentation, and 10 minutes for teacher comments. The judges will grade each student based on their performance in the discussion and presentation sessions, and make comments and suggestions for improvement on the overall performance of the group. The purpose of this activity is to help students deeply understand what companies want to investigate behind the interview, discover their shortcomings in time, and supplement their professional knowledge and required abilities in a targeted manner.

In April 2022, the International Business School held a special lecture on employment policy and employment reports in the form of a grade meeting, focusing on the employment trend environment and the employment characteristics of students of IBS. Li Wenbin, director of the Office of Student Affairs of the International Business School, and Li Yike, deputy director, held employment seminars for students of all grades. They first gave a comprehensive introduction to the school's employment policy, then sorted out the job-seeking process by demonstrating the relevant operations of the employment and entrepreneurship website of BFSU. Finally, they analyzed the whereabouts of the previous graduates and provided practical advice for students' job-hunting planning.

At present, the international environment is complex, and the impact of unstable factors such as the epidemic has led to a severe situation in the employment and work situation of graduates. The International Business School has always attached great importance to the employment of students, and has gone all out to help students achieve higher-quality employment. The whole process and all-around employment mechanism have been continuously improved, and the atmosphere of all staff attaching importance to employment, caring about employment, and promoting employment has become stronger. This employability competition helps college students fully understand all aspects of job hunting and employment, from the early job-seeking experience sharing and industry sharing, to resume evaluation and later mock interviews, and to increase their in-depth understanding of life, to better allow students make a comprehensive career plan in terms of concept, mentality, knowledge, skills, etc., and welcome the upcoming employment season with more adequate preparation and a positive attitude!
