On the afternoon of 20th of April, 2022, the mock interview of the 9th International Business School Employability Competition was successfully held on the third floor of the International Building of the West Campus. Eight teachers from the school and representatives of the companies, including Zhang Jing, Fan Qing, Li Shaohui, Song Wenmin, Lan Jianhua, Qian Mengting, Gao Baihui, and Tan Jialin, attended the event as judges. More than 90 students from the International Business School participated in this mock interview.
This mock interview is conducted in the form of a leaderless group discussion, and each interview is 30 minutes. At two o'clock in the afternoon, the first mock interview officially started. First, the host gave a speech, introduced the judges and read out the interview process and rules. After it the moderator gave the simulated recruitment positions, the group sent representatives to select cases. After the 3-minute case reading time, the students gave full play to their professional knowledge and comprehensive ability, discussed the content of the case and tried to reach a consensus. After the discussion, the group selects representatives to present the content of the discussion.
According to the performance of each student in the discussion and presentation, the judges graded each participant from five aspects: thinking and analysis ability, interpersonal communication ability, stress response ability, organization and coordination ability, and initiative. In the comment section, the judges first evaluated the overall performance of the group, pointed out advantages and disadvantages of the students in the interview process and then helped everyone to analyze the purpose of the company to evaluate everyone through the interview of the leaderless group.
The judges suggested that the students should fully understand the recruiting unit and the skills they need to apply for the position before the interview. During the interview, students should let the interviewer know themselves quickly within three to five minutes, and show their professionalism, expressiveness, communication, leadership skills, and empathy in the discussion.
At 4:30 p.m., all interview sessions ended, and the mock interview was successfully completed.
The purpose of this mock interview activity is to improve the job-seeking skills of prospective graduates of the International Business School, help students to think from the perspective of the interviewer, deeply understand the specific content behind the interview questions, discover their own shortcomings, and supplement the professional knowledge and required capabilities in a targeted manner. We hope that the students can cope more calmly in the future job interviews and achieve good results.
