Dear freshmen of 2018, professors, teachers, ladies and gentlemen,

Good morning! My name is HENG Min. It is a great honor and pleasure to be here on behalf of postgraduate students. First I wish to extend my warmest welcome to all of you who have worked extremely hard to be admitted to International Business School. I hope the tiny green pond on campus could give you a moment getting rid of all the big and heavy work you’ve done before. And a only ten-minutes short walk from the east gate to the west gate could wash away the dust from the long journey you just took. Welcome to BFSU, a university exquisite in shape and loud in voice.

Now I want to describe what our school is like in my eyes, for I’ve just finished my four years’ undergraduate study in IBS. What impressed me most about this university is the back street of the campus, where we could enjoy various delicious foods. But deep down, there are lots of things that impact on me. The library provides us with rich collections as well as a comfortable environment to enrich our knowledge; blossoms and evergreen trees decorate the campus even in winter. Furthermore, professors and teachers are devoted to imparting professional knowledge and resolving doubts; peers from all over the country and even the world share with sincerity. All those things pile up like waves that impel me to grow and to be stronger. I wish you could have the same feelings as I do and never regret coming here.

As a graduate of the school, I can share quite a lot with you. But now I’m also a postgraduate with nervousness and confusion. I even googled many times to find out how to live a postgraduate life. Although there’s no perfect answer, I did find something in common. The first thing in common is perseverance. If you find something right and you like, try to stick to it, which might be a life-long fun. To stick to academy, reading, or critical thinking could be one of our goals in the next few years. The second point is about academy. We are stepping into the period of academic research, which requires a large amount of paper reading, individual study and academic output. Therefore, a serious and respectful attitude towards academy is indispensable. The last essential factor is the rule. Every school has it’s own rules. As a student of senior grade, we ought to observe the rules and to be a model. Speaking of this, I also want to stress the importance of the balance between study and internship. To find a good internship is necessary though, we’d like to focus more on study in the first one or two years. It would guarantee high scores as well as a high-quality job. To learn is to practice, and without serious learning, there wouldn’t be effective practice. There is a long walk to go, let’s explore more and find a suitable answer together.

At last, I want to quote a line from the movie Forever Young. It says:”what is true? No matter what you see, what you hear, what you are doing and whom you stay with, you never feel regretted but sense a strong feeling of serenity and happiness without being ashamed.” We are bound to experience ups and downs in life. After taste it all, I wish all of us could seek out what is true to our own and gain serenity and happiness. All in all, enjoy yourself in BFSU. Thank you!
